Anyone who has truly lived in linen knows the feeling.

That one favorite shirt. The one you pack without thinking, for long lunches, endless rosés, and whatever the English summer manages to scrape together. Over the years it softens and settles into you, until it fits not just your frame but your life.

For a devoted linen lover, moving to California felt like an answered prayer. A place where linen isn't rationed to a fleeting six weeks between June and a disappointing August. Here, we thought, linen could finally be what it was always meant to be, a daily uniform, as effortless in January as it is in July.

Hugo’s abundant linen shirt collection, liberated from the constraints of a British wardrobe and suddenly in constant rotation, threw itself into its new life with considerable enthusiasm, and promptly began to wear through at the elbows. Fair enough. They had earned it.

Replacing them, one would assume, would be simple. In a place so defined by sun and ease.

It wasn't, and so thomasi was born.
